Hello, and thank you for taking the time to visit my website. As the Scottish Election draws closer, it is tempting to reflect back on the five years that I have served as the MSP for North East Fife, since being elected in May 2011. However, in politics, as in many other professions, things happen so quickly that it is essential to look ahead, as there are always fresh challenges lying in wait, new obstacles to overcome and many important causes still worth fighting for.
The past five years as North East Fife’s constituency MSP has proven to be a real learning curve. It has, however, been an enjoyable experience. It has also been a great privilege to represent the people of North East Fife and to work in the Scottish Parliament.
Last year’s Westminster election, following so quickly after the independence referendum in 2014, proved that politics in Scotland has changed. People are tired of the Westminster status quo and want a more progressive, fairer Scotland. After working so tirelessly for change during the referendum, people from both sides of the debate, I believe, share at least that final aspiration – of a fairer, better Scotland.
The Scottish Parliament elections on Thursday 5 May this year provides the people of Scotland with a new opportunity to let their voices be heard on the future of the country and debate the issues most important to them. I will continue to work hard on behalf of my constituents and I hope that, with a lot of hard work, I can earn the right to continue to represent the people of North East Fife beyond this May’s election.
